The chief modifications are the articulation of the deciduous blade on to the sheath, which occurs in all the Bambuseae (except Planotia) and in Spartina stricta; and the interposition of a petiole between the sheath and the blade, as in bamboos, Leptaspis, Pharus, Pariana, Lophatherum and others.
The beaches and lower lands are covered with a dense growth of tussock grass (Spartina arundinacea), 8 to 10 ft.
Cord grass The small cordgrass, Spartina maritima, is the only species of cordgrass native to Great Britain.
A further source might have been wave and tidal scour of the eroding margins of Spartina marshes.
Reed Grass (Spartina Polystachya) - This tall grass is very graceful, with yellowish variegation and of tall habit.
