Origin of Slow-walk

  • 1973, US dialect, presumably Tennessee. Used by national politicians from the southern US in late 1990s (1997), subsequently in general use. One theory suggests origins from walking gait of the Tennessee Walking Horse, generally called “flat walk”, but less often, with one known use in the lexicon of equestrianism, slow walk (1967).
