Shipley Hall, to the south of Heanor, is a mansion built on a hill, amidst fine gardens.
Having held pastorates at Shipley, Hackney, Manchester, Leicester and Cambridge, he became principal of Hackney Theological College, Hampstead, in 1901.
In 1809 Heber married Amelia, daughter of Dr Shipley, dean of St Asaph.
In the township of Shipley is a chalybeate spring.
In 1836 Mr (afterwards Sir) Titus Salt developed the alpaca manufacture in the town; mohair was shortly afterwards introduced; and the great works at Saltaire were opened (see Shipley).
