Rimshot Definition

A sharp sound produced by striking a drumstick either against the rim and head of a snare drum simultaneously or against another drumstick held so that it rests on the rim and head.

A quick, abrupt drumroll followed by such a sound or by the striking of a cymbal, often used for emphasis after the punchline of a joke told by a comedian.
