It is situated on the Oppa and possesses a château belonging to Prince Liechtenstein, who holds extensive estates in the district.
The chief tributaries of the Oder on the left bank are the Oppa, Glatzer Neisse, Katzbach, Bober and Lausitzer Neisse; on the right bank the Malapane, Bartsch and Warthe.
It is situated on the Oppa river, close to the Prussian frontier, and is a well-built town with extensive suburbs.
