Galashiels was created into a burgh of barony in 1599.
Churches of this order were founded in Paisley, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leith, Arbroath, Montrose, Aberdeen, Dunkeld, Cupar, Galashiels, Liverpool and London, where Michael Faraday was long an elder.
The town is governed by a provost, bailies and council, and unites with Selkirk and Galashiels (together known as the Border burghs) to send a member to parliament.
They spent monies previously earmarked for the Galashiels facility.
The final 2 Kilometers of the section are a gradual descent into Galashiels, the major commercial center of the Border region.
