Having a reasonable time slot gives the parents an excuse to sit down and have calming down time before their child's bedtime!
Calming-down activities, such as being read to by a parent, have been replaced with electronic stimulation resulting in less sleep time.
Establishing a regular bedtime schedule and routine, including a calming-down period prior to sleep, will help reduce the number of sleep disruptions.
The time out should serve to teach the child to manage strong feelings safely, and after he or she has done so, the child should be praised for calming down.
