Cognate with Scots ble, blee, blie (“colour, complexion”), Old Frisian blī, blie (North Frisian bläy, “colour, hue, complexion”), Old Saxon blī (“colour, hue, complexion”), Old High German blīo(h) (“colour, hue”), blīo (German Blei, “metallic lead”), Danish bly (“lead”), Icelandic blý (“lead”).
