An Algonquian language spoken by approximately 11,000 people in Eastern Canada.
Origin of Montagnais
It comes from the French " Montagne" translation of mountain, it means literally "the people that lives in the mountains" Because this native tribe was living in a range of mountain, the French discoverers named them for this reason.
