Global Counterterrorism Glossaries

In the wake of the attack on the World Trade Center, today's news contains references to once esoteric subjects, such as bioterrorism and special forces, as well as the organizations enjoined in the battle, countries and geographies less familiar to the English-speaking world.

Consequently, yourDictionary.com, the global language portal of record, is publishing a series of dynamic glossaries of terms used in the Global Counterterrorism Campaign. These glossaries are expressly designed to help you better understand this new war and strange new world, as well as as word-lists to help non-Muslims better understand the history and principles of Islam.

The series will be dynamic in two senses of the word. First, as new words emerge, we will add them to the appropriate glossary—new countries, new organizations, and the like. Second, we will also add entirely new glossaries, new sets of words and concepts, to this section, to help you navigate through what you hear, read, and see in the media.

We invite you to suggest improvements and additions that would strengthen our efforts here. Representatives of the media are encouraged to contact us for more details about these words.
